MARINE MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Level 3 Apprenticeship. 4 Year Training Contract

As a Marine Engineer, you will learn how to install a wide variety of mechanical systems, from the hydraulic circuits that open garage doors, to the engines and propulsion systems, to the fuel systems and everything in between.  You will learn classic engineering skills and develop outstanding problem solving ability to ensure that your engine room is best in class.  If you can fix a skateboard or a bicycle and have an interest in how things work, this is the trade for you.

Entry Requirements : 5 GCSEs 9 - 4, or equivalent, or a level 2 vocational qualification in a related subject.

MARINE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Level 3 Apprenticeship. 4 Year Training Contract

As the technology in Sunseeker motor yachts becomes ever more sophisticated so does the importance of Marine Electricians.  In this trade you will learn the fundamentals of electrical power to build your ability to install electrical systems, such as: lights and switches, our stunning audio and visual systems, full engine room electrical fit out, including power generation/management with AC and DC circuits and, sophisticated navigation and radio systems that are critical to the safe operation of our vessels.  If you have an interest in electrical, computer or audio systems and enjoyed physics at school, this is the trade for you.

When does recruitment open and close?

  • Recruitment usually opens during National Apprenticeship Week which is February each year for a September start.  Applicants may register for an alert or apply at www.sunseeker.com/recruitment 


What do you pay Apprentices?
On completion of the fixed term training contract, the annual salary is currently up to £30,160 for a 40-hour week, however options for overtime usually exist to give an opportunity to earn between £36,000 and £40,000 per annum depending on the number of overtime hours worked

  • Grading pay through the Apprenticeship is currently as follows:
  • Year 1.  £5.50 p/h irrespective of age
  • Year 2.  £7.00 p/h   (Aged 21-22+ £8.36 p/h), (Aged 23+ £8.91 p/h)
  • Year 3.  £9.30 p/h
  • Year 4.  £12.70p/h
  • On completion up to £14.50 per hour plus options to earn up to £15.00 per hour with a discretionary and non-contractual  “Values” uplift in hourly pay, and regular team based performance payments

What should I be doing now to help my application?

  • Concentrate on achieving the best GCSE (or equivalent) grades you can
  • Maintain a good attendance record at School, College or your current employer
  • Apply for work experience at Sunseeker or another employer that can support your trade interest (engineering/electrical/carpentry/composites/manufacturing)
  • Gain some experience in the trade you wish to apply for and record it so you can bring evidence to your interview (e.g. a portfolio of photos, or an object you’ve made etc)
     

What are the career progression opportunities?
Apprentices can progress to a variety of areas, including but not limited to;

  • Management roles such as Team Leader, Production Manager, Business Manager and even Operations Director
  • Global travelling roles in the internationally field based Warranty/Aftersales Engineering Team
  • Maritime roles in the Poole based Test and Commissioning Team
  • Technical/support roles in manufacturing such as Production Engineering, Purchasing/Planning, Technical Sales Support and Quality.
     

How does the Apprenticeship training work?

  •  Apprentices will attend college by paid day release 1 day a week, and attend work 4 days a week. 
  • All Apprentices are employed by Sunseeker International Ltd via a fixed term training contract and the Company has the intention to employ 100% of those recruited on a full time permanent basis, upon successful completion of their training contract
  • All Apprentices are enrolled to a Government approved Engineering Apprenticeship with our training provider, Bournemouth and Poole College
